It is widely use in many fields like the following:
Ethyl caprylate has coconut flavor. It is mainly used for the preparation of food flavors. Ethyl esters of aliphatic carboxylates, such as ethyl caprylate, ethyl nonyl ester and ethyl laurate, are also used as flavors. Sometimes commercial ethyl laurate refers to mixed esters. Octanoic acid (C8), decanoic acid (C10), lauric acid (C12), myristic acid (C14) and palmitic acid (C16) exist in coconut oil in the form of glyceride, and the content of lauric acid glyceride is 45-51%. Ethyl laurate can be obtained by transesterification of ethanol and coconut oil glyceride in the presence of sulphuric acid. It is used for the preparation of perfumes, soap essence and food flavors.
